Alcohol

This solvent is a degreaser as well as an antiseptic agent. When mixed with water and a touch of dish detergent, alcohol does a fine job of cleaning tobacco-smoke film off windows, mirrors and video screens. Alcohol is also good at removing adhesive residue, which is resistant to plain water or general-purpose cleaners. Use denatured alcohol or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol for cleaning purposes; check rubbing alcohol before use to make sure it contains no dye or perfume.

As with many solvents, denatured or rubbing alcohols should be considered poisonous and stored away from the reach of young children. They are also flammable and should be used only in a well-ventilated area.
