As the name implies, a leaf blower saves lots of time and labor around the yard. They’re just as useful in cleaning up outdoor surfaces such as walkways, driveways, and garage floors. A leaf blower is much faster and easier – not to mention more effective -- than a push broom in blasting away dust, dirt, and sand.
• Always wear eye protection. Eye injuries are a big hazard in using a leaf blower, which can drive debris with a wind speed of 150 mph or higher. Choose approved goggles, since prescription safety glasses may not shield your eyes adequately in every instance.
• Wear long pants, long sleeves and work gloves to prevent injury from flying debris.
• Make sure children, pets and other people stay clear of the area while you’re working.
• When clearing a garage floor, keep the doors to the inside of the home closed while working and for a while afterward, until any remaining dust has settled. Open all doors to the exterior and leave them open for ventilation.
• Never use a gasoline-powered blower in any enclosed space, such as a closed garage. These tools can emit large amounts of carbon monoxide.
• To prevent shock or electrocution hazards, never use a plug-in electric blower while standing on any wet surface. Battery-powered blowers are OK, though.
