The magnetic fields around stereo receivers, CD players, speakers and video monitors attract dust, so that frequent dusting may be necessary. If possible, place components inside a cabinet with a door — and keep the door closed — to cut down on dust accumulation.
Fingerprints and other grime may be removed from plastic or metal equipment cabinets with a mild household cleaner or a solution of rubbing alcohol and water applied to a cloth. Buff the surface dry with a clean, soft cloth. The screens of LCD, flat-panel video monitors are the exception to this rule — don’t use anything stronger than a solution of mild soap and water to clean these panels, since stronger alkalies can damage their soft plastic surfaces. It's best to consult the owner's manual for tips on care and cleaning. The glass screens of CRT monitors generally don’t require this precaution.
Caution: Never spray or pour cleaning solution directly onto any electronic component. Doing so increases shock hazards and can damage the equipment.
