Are you stuck in a holding pattern of confusion in your cluttered home? Are you trapped in a rut of disorganization? I’ve learned that when we are distracted by our disorder we cannot see the possibilities for our life. Instead of discovering the fullness of our capabilities and passions, we are the victims of the status quo. Our haphazard way of living causes us to stagnate in our personal and professional lives rather than moving forward. We begin to lose hope.
I don’t know about you, but I want to live with intention and to be purposeful about how I spend my time. I don’t want to come to the end of my life and realize that I missed the possibilities that were offered to me along the way. We all know that disorganization causes us to live reactively. Only when we can extricate ourselves from reactive, out-of-control living can we recognize and seize the possibility in our life.
The Possibility Principle is this: when we get organized we reclaim our potential, embrace possibilities, and enhance our quality of life. A lifestyle of order liberates us to serve others and live on purpose.
Reclaim Your Potential
Without a reasonable state of order and systems that help us manage our daily lives, we get derailed from our good intentions. We can’t make dinner for the family since our counters are covered. We resist having people over because our house is a wreck. When we look at our family’s fast food habits and our embarrassing household, it’s easy to see through the eyes of others how we’re not living up to how we could be living.
Perhaps it’s easier to see how we let others down through our messy lifestyle than it is to see how we let ourselves down. If you are living out-of-control you are not living to your full potential. Disorganization sidetracks us from our purpose and compromises our potential.
Without even knowing it, your potential may be suffering because disorganization:
- Makes it hard to think straight
- Stymies our productivity
- Blurs our focus
- Provides a ready excuse for procrastination
- Causes us to avoiding dealing with important issues
- Lowers our self esteem
- Always yields disappointing results
When we begin to realize that organizing our life and space frees up time to invest in our own success, we become more committed to the organizing process. You don’t have to wait until pain motivates your choices! You can let the possibilities in your personal and professional life inspire you to change! Getting organized can help you reclaim your potential!
Reclaim Your Quality of Life
An orderly lifestyle allows room for you to think more clearly and act as you intend. As you begin to order your space and your life, you will have more time to invest in yourself, in others, and in your dreams. If you were to get organized, you can free up “bandwidth” in your life to pursue the possibilities. What are some specific possibilities in your life in these areas? Think about these:
Invest in Yourself
- Rejuvenate your stressed self
- Reactivate your hobbies
- Focus on your strengths
- Delegate and outsource your weaknesses
Invest in Others
- Reclaim your social life
- Begin reaching out to others
- Open up your home in hospitality
- Start serving in your church or community
It’s time to get out of your self-defeating cycle of disorganization. Ordering your life allows you room to refuel and reach out. Then, the possibilities that lie ahead will begin to come into focus and you can begin intentionally living to your full potential.
