Sweeping can be downright easy if you follow a couple of simple principles:
- Keep the floor from getting dirty to begin with by laying a decent mat at your entranceways; 80-85% of the dirt that's in your house gets in through outside doors.
- Vacuum, dust mop and/or sweep the floor regularly. One of the best ways to keep a floor clean is to use a small broom to pull out debris from the edges and a small commercial quality microfiber dust mop for the main part of the floor. The dust mop is very fast — it will clean your floor at least twice as fast as you could sweep it.
Regarding brooms, this is one case where the artificial is better than the natural. Corn broom fibers break off easily, get soft when wet, mold and mildew easily and tend to bend in one direction — sort of resembling a hockey stick. A nylon bristled broom lasts almost forever, won't absorb moisture, is washable, doesn't shed bristles, won't get bent out of shape, and comes in designer colors.
